my wish

I hope that the days come easy and the moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you want to go,
And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile

But more than anything, more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

- Rascal Flatts

I didn't love that song at first, but it has worn on me, and whenever I hear it I think of my girls and I find a smile across my face and a tear in the corner of my eye.
Oh my, Sawyer and Harper make my world turn round.

...and thinking about their dad keeps me smiling all day long...

A Little Bit of Trauma | Stair Climbing | Carousel Ride

Last weekend Marc, Sawyer & Harper had a traumatizing experience.  Marc was outside with the girls in our backyard and Harper was sitting in her high chair (I wasn't home).  Harper wasn't strapped in (she typically isn't) but Marc was sitting right next to her so he didn't think it was a big deal.  Harper suddenly slipped in her chair and slid down under the tray part and got stuck.  Marc wasn't able to push her out, or pull her through the bottom so he ended up having to break the seat apart to get her out.  It sounded terrible, I was partly really glad I wasn't there, I would have been a hot mess.  From what I was told, Sawyer was terrified and Marc and Harps were crying.  So so sad.  So glad my baby was ok, so glad Marc was there to rescue her (Marc says that if I had been home alone when that happened I would have had to call 911...)

After Harper had her high chair incident and Marc calmed her down and got her all happy again, Harper scooted over to the back door (which was opened) and fell on her face onto our patio.  She now has war wound scraped her left side of her face.  Our poor little girl, she had a rough day.

Yesterday, when I went upstairs to empty the trash cans and get the vacuum cleaner I left the girls downstairs playing in the family room.  When I came out of my bedroom I was shocked to see none other than my little Harpoo sitting at the top of the stairs.  I had no clue Harper was able to climb stairs, and I don't know how she managed to do it without falling backwards.  I was so impressed (and a little stressed out).

I am now shopping around for baby gates (thanks to my sister's advice I think we found the ones we want) and I purchased a new high chair (also thanks to my sister...we are copying her).  I was getting excited to buy a new area rug for our family room...but it looks like our moolah is going towards baby gear instead...that is ok...just close your eyes when you come to our house and ignore our rug...it has had a tough year...it is not looking too hot.

Since Harper's high chair is out of commission she is using Sawyer's old high chair.  I don't love it because I like her having a tray, but it works until diapers.com delivers our new one.  Sawyer thought it was so cool that Harps was in her old seat (and don't judge their donut breakfast).

After breakfast we ran some errands and we somehow found ourselves at the Spectrum.  Sawyer always asks to ride the carousel and I always tell her it is broken (mean mom!) but today I caved and we went for a ride.  Sawyer was SO happy and Harper was a little unsure...at one point Harper was both laughing and crying at the same time, but overall it was an enjoyable experience for all 3 of us.

(check out her baby blues, aren't they awesome?)

(this photo documents the scrapes on her face from the fall out the backdoor...they are already looking way better than they did on Monday)

(so happy to be on the "horsies")

After we got home the girls were hungry so I fed them and then we started to pick out the clothes we were going to pack for Idaho and Sawyer decided to play dress up.  I love these girls of mine.  What the heck would I do without them?

Her "pieces of teef" smile makes me happy...

(look how grubby the side of her chair is...ugh....I just barfed)

This video doesn't show much, but you get the idea...Harper figured out the stairs.

Hopefully we can keep the trauma out of our life from now on...that is the scariest part about life...bad things can happen at any given moment.  I try to not take a single second for granted.  Sometimes I do.  But I try not to.

Long Distance Relationship | Day at the Beach

About a year ago one of my friends moved to Oregon...and now she and her family are getting ready to move to China.  Yes, CHINA!  That is far away people.  I think I really liked it when she just lived on the street behind me (much more convenient) but I am excited for her to begin her new journey.

Katie has been spending some time in California before her big move, and me and the girls were lucky enough to get to hang out with her and her kids (and her new baby! and some other friends) at the beach the other day.  We went to Three Arch and the weather was ridiculously pretty and it was so fun watching the kids play.  A husband of one of the friends was there and he dug a big hole for the kids to play in; Sawyer was in heaven.  Harper was happy eating the sand, rolling in the sand, and making a fast scoot for the water whenever she got the chance.  I couldn't help but think how much more fun beach days are this summer than they were last summer...as sad as I am that my kids are growing up, it really just keeps getting better.

I managed to not take any pictures of the kids actually looking at the camera (besides Reese) but seriously...I love these two together...

Beck told Sawyer she needed to wash the sand off of her hands before she could share his popcorn with him, so she was heading down to the water to clean her paws.

Here they come...popcorn in hand (and presumably clean hands).

Reese, she would be a nice sister-in-law for Sawyer ;)

Harper made some new friends...

...and she covered her face (and eyeballs) in sand...

Harper making a scoot for the water totally reminded me of Sawyer at the same age...she was the same way, always trying to get down to the water.

Sawyer loved the "big shovel"...I think I might need to invest in one for our next beach outing.

Jumping into the "splash pool".

And what is a recent blog post without iPhone pictures?

Picture perfect day...

It was a fun afternoon and I am so grateful for my friends...I have good ones :)

Post-Bath Excitement

After the bath tonight the girls were giggly and happy so they got to play for a bit before we got their jammies on (I sort of wish they were fully clothed so I would feel less weird about posting this video on the blog...but oh well).  Harper discovered that she can get up into her green chair by herself.  She is progressing so quickly these days, Marc and I (and Sawyer too) are so excited for her!  We love our little Harpoo...and our Sawyer too :)

It is so fun having two little ones that can play together, it really just keeps getting better and better.

Catalina

On Saturday we went to Catalina (it was my first time ever to visit the island!)  We had to wake the girls up early to get ready to go.  When we went in to wake Harper up she was already awake and STANDING UP in her bed.  Big news over here at the Dimick house...this was Harper's first time standing up by herself like that.  We were all giddy about it.  Too bad I didn't get a picture.

We met my sister and her family in Newport to catch the boat.  We struggled finding parking (user error) so we were a little late getting onto the boat, so we missed out on getting seats so we had to stand on the back of the boat for the whole hour and 15 minute ride.  It worked out fine and it was actually really great because we saw a huge group of dolphins,  there were at least 10 of them, and we saw a whale!  Sawyer said "the dolphins are just like the mermaids!"...she is fascinated with mermaids these days.  It was so exciting.  No one got sick, the kids were good, and the parents had fun, it was a good little trip.

Harps spent part of the boat ride in the stroller.

Aunt Bryt brought some quite books for the girls to look at.

My favorite was when it looked like Harper was going to blow away.  Obviously I wouldn't think it was funny if she did blow away, but her cheeks and her hair were blowing ferociously in the wind (well her hair was...her cheeks were just jiggling).

Me and my sister and our kids.

When we got to Catalina we were all hungry so we headed to Descanso for some grub.  Lunch took forever.  They lost our ticket and our food didn't come out for an hour...that is a long time to wait to eat with 3 squirmy kids.  The adults took turns taking the kids on little walks, and we had a great view right on the water, so we weren't complaining.  The food was tasty when it finally did come out, and we got a 10% discount since we had to wait for time and all eternity, so that was cool.

We sat under this palm tree to have lunch and we looked out over the water.

These girls are the cutest.  Mazie totally fits in with mine, huh?

Mazie is so cute, she is always looking out for her little cousin Harper.  She is trying to give her a hug here.

I am not sure what is happening but it looks like she is petting her like a dog.

We had big plans to rent golf carts and explore the island, except we didn't really realize you needed car seats to go in the golf carts and the rule is only one kid per cart...so we would have needed 3 carts...we decided against that idea and then, well, we spent the next 3 hours just walking around.  Stopped at a park. Had some ice cream.  I bought a bracelet.  We saw some giant hideous fish in the water, the baby girls took turns soiling their diapers, Sawyer had her first porta-potty experience (it was as good as could be expected),   we did a lot of chatting, a good amount of laughing, and just had fun doing pretty much, well, nothing.  We all felt like we were on vacation from real life and it felt good to spend the day "away".  We got a lot of questions about which kid belonged to which parent and Mazie & Harper threw a lot of people...we got a lot of "are they twins?" and confused faces when we said no.

Just lookin' at her and lovin' her..

None of the kids were in the mood for this photo op apparently.

These two weren't cooperating...

Yes Gabe, this photo did indeed make it on a blog...

The boat ride home wasn't quite as perfect as the ride there.  The babies were fine, Sawyer was getting tired, cranky and hungry.  She was kind of naughty and it was making me kind of tired.  We survived though with no big "scenes" and Harper was asleep in her car seat as soon as we got back to the car.  When we got home we put the kids to bed and Marc & I ordered pizza and watched a movie.  It was a great day and we were lucky to have fun people to share it with.  We love you Willhites!

S'More Lovin'

On Friday we stayed home and BBQ'd and made s'mores in our fire pit.  BBQ chicken was sounding so yummy to me, so that what was on the menu.  Marc cooked it to perfection, so good.  We could hardly get Sawyer to take a bite and try it, but Harper totally scarfed it down along with the mashed potatoes.  Sawyer = terrible eater, Harper = great eater.  It is much more fun to cook when one of your children actually enjoys food.  Sawyer would live on milk and apple juice if she could, she practically does.

After we put Harper to bed we made s'mores in our fire pit.  Sawyer made the most awful looking marshmallows ever, it was laughable, but she was so proud of them and was even willing to eat the pieces of char (but we talked her out of it).  I love doing simple little things like that with our family, I enjoy it...I think they do too.

I love this...

Then we all went to bed early so that we could get up bright and early (we had to be out of the house by 7:30AM...that is really early for me and the girls) to get on the boat to head to Catalina.
