Ordinary Days

Before we went on vacation last week we were spending the majority of time just hanging out at home and playing in the backyard.  Sometimes the best days are playing at the house and just seeing where the day takes us.

We played with a bucket of soapy water and washed our double-stroller.  The girls washed themselves in that same soapy water.

We bonded over books.

We splurged and had In-N-Out, watched movies, colored, and fell asleep in front of the TV.

The girls took a spin in their Escalade and enjoyed their dinner on their newly repainted surfboard table.

We busted out our sprinkler, ate Popsicles, lounged in the sun, and pretended it was summer.

We spent time with our neighborhood friends, Sawyer rocked her favorite dress, we found new ways to play with our "everywhere chairs" inside, and the kids fought over anything and everything...I captured them fighting over a purse on my iPhone.

Harper indulged in quiet time and enjoyed her "Little Miss Sunshine" book and we had a Chinese food lunch with Dad where Harper got a fortune that I knew right away was a total lie.

After all of our playing we had to get freshened up in the bath.  The girls love bath time, although they usually argue over who gets to sit near the faucet.  Looks like Harper scored this time.

This Little One

Parenthood is exhausting both mentally and physically. It keeps you on your toes and it makes you work hard for those moments where you get to relax. I don't think you can comprehend what it's like until you experience it first hand. Until you are the parent. Babysitting and parenting are entirely different - just for the record.

Harper is giving us a run for our money. She's stubborn and vocal and yet so sweet. She is mostly mellow & easy going but when she doesn't like something, she's definitely going to tell you about it.

We utilize timeouts over here. It's funny because Sawyer usually cries hysterically when she gets put in timeout (and Harper laughs at her for this) and when Harper is being punished she gives you pouty faces & dirty looks. When Harper is done being punished she drops her eyes to the floor and heads to her big sister for comfort and hugs. Sometimes I wish I could put her in timeout more often because it's so cute watching her get loves from Sawyer to make her feel better.

The looks this little one was giving me in timeout the other day were priceless. Totally annoying, and yet, totally funny.

At this point I can't remember what she did wrong...

Even when she's a stinker, I still love her so much.

I really love bedtime too ;)

Love Day

I love Valentine's Day.  I love the pink, I love the hearts, I love the love.  One of my best friends volunteered to babysit for us so that Marc and I could go out to dinner, but because we are nuts, we opted to stay home with the kids, lounge in our jams, and watch a Bruce Springsteen concert DVD.  We like all being home together, maybe we are just crazy.

In the morning I had some surprises for the girls, balloons, presents and festive decorations.  Sawyer got a new Taylor Swift DVD that was pretty much playing the entire day.  We made a visit to the flower fields to run around, and the girls and I munched on In N Out for lunch.  It was a happy fun day, just the way it should be.

(I think it is funny you can still see the "Get Well Sawyer" from the day of Sawyer's arm surgery)

Valentine's Day Ready

At school today Sawyer and her class celebrated Valentine's Day.  Last night Sawyer and I put together her Valentine's and this morning she was so excited to go to school.

She will be sporting this same outfit tomorrow for the actual holiday, but I thought she looked so cute today I couldn't help but take a couple of pictures.

I love this lovie.

Big Hugs & Sunshine

It seems that both of our girls are growing at lightning speed these days. Harper is talking so much and everyday she is learning new words. I am amazed by how quickly her vocabulary is growing (although probably hard for most "outsiders" to understand) and how many words she will repeat if I ask her to say them. Every night before bed I have quiet time with Harper and we sit in her rocking chair and read a book. Harper's book of choice is "Little Miss Sunshine" - it seems so fitting for her and it makes me so happy. Tonight before I gave her one last snuggle before putting her down in her crib she said "sunshine" - I am pretty sure I giggled in delight. Harper is both sweet and feisty and her golden skin and bright blonde hair remind me of a burst of sunshine...that very same sunshine that makes me oh so happy. I could soak Harper up all day long, and I do. I love her so much.

Sawyer is growing and getting so big. There are moments she seems so grown up and mature I practically have to pinch myself and make sure it's not just a dream. I find that Sawyer reacts to most situations the same way that I do and I can usually relate to how she's acting, even when she's being a pill (unfortunately). Sawyer is constantly showing us new dance moves, saying the funniest things and being our little boss. Sawyer is my lover girl and giving me hugs and kisses all day long. I always tell Sawyer to stop growing, the inevitable makes me a little weepy and I would prefer my babies to always stay babies. Tonight Sawyer said to me "Sorry Mom but I am growin'! I want to grow bigger so that I can give you even bigger hugs!" - seriously, how can I argue with that?! I love this girl to pieces.

I feel so lucky that I have such a great family. I came from a great one (you did good Mom & Dad) and I am so happy and content with the family that Marc and I are creating. Sometimes parenting is hard, and tiring, and a little bit sucky, but it's also the most wonderful, rewarding, satisfying, amazing thing I could ever imagine doing. Hands down, having a family of my own is the best thing in my life - I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Super Bowl Weekend

All of last weekend was really super ;)  Today was a gray dreary day and looking at these pictures just reminded me of how thankful I am to live where I live and get to spend most of my days in the sunshine - I don't do well in the gloom.

The whole weekend was all about family time, which I think it always should be.  Saturday we went to the garden center, worked in the yard, ate lunch outside, danced in the backyard, went to the park, and Marc and I got to escape out to dinner with some adult friends and have adult conversation.  The day was pretty great.

I think this pouty face was just a joke, because if I remember correctly, she was all smiles almost the whole day.

We have a new park going up by our house so we went to go check it out but it isn't open yet so we headed back to the barn park.  Harper loves the swirly slide, she climbs right to the top like one of the big kids. Notice Sawyer climbing up the slide as Harper is going down...

On Super Bowl Sunday we started the day with a visit to the tide pools in Laguna Beach with one of Marc's work friends and his girlfriend.  The girls got a donut and an "ice shake" and then we headed to the beach.

I didn't expect the weather to be so nice...it was such a perfect morning.  The girls had a ton of fun, and I had a good time too.  Sawyer got pretty into it...she was having fun searching for shells with her dad.

We took our engagement pictures at this same spot in Laguna Beach back in September of 2006.

After we got home from the beach and we put Harper down for a nap Marc planted our first citrus tree!  I hope we can grow some oranges, I am so excited about this.

We went over to my sister's to watch the game.  I think I maybe saw .5 seconds of the game.  Us girls were busy down with the babes at the splash pad/kiddie pool and when we were inside I was busy with the little ones.  It was a perfect afternoon though, and I know that Sawyer & Harper had a perfect Sunday.  I had a perfect Sunday too.  By the time we left we were all exhausted and everyone in my family was asleep by 7:30.  Party. Animals.

I love how putting Harper's hair in a pony tail accentuates her cheeks, I adore her.

These three kept fighting over that silly bucket...

Aren't they three of the cutest little girls?  I am obsessed with them.

I think that was one of my favorite Super Bowl weekends to date.  Thanks family for making it a good one :)
