Cast Away

Our girl finally got her cast off yesterday!  6 weeks of that thing and I was getting pretty tired of it.  We have been limited to which dresses (skirt dresses, as Sawyer calls them) and sweaters, jackets and pjs Sawyer has been able to fit into because of her giant arm.  This for me, was so annoying.  We are excited we don't have to "bag the cast" anymore for baths and Sawyer exclaimed "Now I can go to the beach and in the water!" She has been so good through this whole thing, seriously never complaining, she is amazing.  When she took a bath last night the first thing she did was submerged her arm in the water, you should have seen the smile on her face.

The doctor and nurses think I am crazy...pulling out my giant camera every time they examined her arm.

Running up the stairs to her appointment...the excitement in her voice was the best.

Last "pose" with her cast!  She keeps doing this "I have to go to the bathroom" type pose...

Right before they sawed the cast off.  Whoo hoo!  The doctor's office loved her, she was always in the best spirits.

Getting ready for her final x-ray.  The bone placement is great.  Her arm doesn't go quite as straight anymore as her pre-broken arm but the doctor is happy with the outcome and thinks it will loosen up a bit over time.  During the next 6 months her arm could turn in a little and be a little funny looking if you are looking for it, but we expect a good recovery.

Heading home and doing some more "I have to go to the bathroom" poses.  I am so happy to see that right arm of hers, I just want to kiss that little sucker up and down...we have missed it.

(I am embarrassed by the hole in her pants...they have since been thrown away)

We go back in two weeks for a follow-up to make sure that her arm is still on the right track and that it has loosened up a bit.  Last night she was saying that her arm hurt but Marc and I are hoping that it was because she was really tired and that it was just kind of stiff.  We will have to keep an eye on it.  Sawyer still favors her left hand for everything thus far, but maybe she will eventually go back to being a righty.  She was excited to try out drawing with her right hand as soon as we got in the car to head home yesterday.

She is just too cute.  And so is her right arm.  We are so happy to be done with the hot pink cast!!

The anticipation of getting the cast off kind of felt like the anticipation of Christmas, it really was that exciting.
